Bulgaria has offered Montenegro to expand its the consular services that it offers on its behalf in other countries around the world, Foreign Minister Mladenov said during his visit to Podgorica.
“Bulgaria’s support for Montenegro’s NATO and EU accession and for its independence comes from our hearts. Montenegro’s successes are beneficial for our entire region,” stated the Bulgarian Foreign Minister during his meeting with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Dukanovic in the capital Podgorica.
Mladenov has met with his Montenegrin counterpart, Milan Rocen, the country’s President, Filip Vujanovic, and Parliament Chair Ranko Krovokapic.
“The excellent relations between Bulgaria and Montenegro can serve as an example for the Balkans. The region has no alternative to its EU integration, and this message has to be taken to Brussels and all Balkan capitals,” explained the Bulgarian Foreign Minister.
He reached an agreement with the Montenegrin authorities to review the bilateral legal agreements in order to facilitate economic exchange. Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry has pointed out that the bilateral trade amounted to only EUR 5 M in 2009 despite the perfect political relations.
Bulgaria is already issuing visas on behalf of Montenegro in five countries – Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan, and has offered to expand this service to other states where Montenegro does not have consular representation.
Mladenov’s visit to Montenegro is part of his Western Balkans tour, which already included Macedonia and Serbia, and will continue to Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania.
