Georgi Petkanov, Former Minister of Interior, Justice, Dies at 67
Georgi Petkanov, former Bulgarian Interior Minister and Justice Minister, has died at the age of 67.
The party founded by Bulgaria's former Tsar, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, NMSP, is calling an emergency congress in November.
The news was announced by the Deputy Chair of National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NMSP) party, Marina Dikova, after the Tuesday meeting of the NMSP Political Council.
The congress is to elect a new Political Council, new Control Council, and new leader.
The news comes as result of the NMSP crushing elections' loss where the party lost the largest number of individual votes and failed to win any seats in the new Parliament.
The political Council examined Tuesday the analysis of the reasons for the loss: the voters' fatigue after the 8 years of NMSP being in power, the positive campaign in the conditions of a radical pre-election situation, large-scale vote buying on the part of other political formations.
The party leader and former Tsar and PM, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, resigned the next day after election results were announced - July 6.
All Deputy Chairs of the NMSP also announced in the elections' aftermath that they were handing in their resignations.
Milen Velchev, Iliya Lingorski, Marina Dikova, Mincho Spasov, and Ogniyan Gerdzhikov resigned on July 6.
