According to a report from TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin is making a change in leadership by replacing Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu
The outgoing US Ambassador to Bulgaria, Nancy McEldowney, was awarded Monday a medal by the Bulgarian Defense Ministry.
The outgoing Defense Minister, Nikolay Tsonev, awarded Her Excellency with a St. George I order for her contribution to the development of the strategic partnership Bulgaria and the USA.
During her address, Ambassador McEldowney said she accepted the Defense Ministry medal on behalf of "the men and women in uniform who are defending the interests of our two nations".
She pointed out that during her one-year term as the US Ambassador to Bulgaria, the two countries set stable foundations for the development of the strategic partnership with thousands of Bulgarian and US troops participating in joint military drills, and the US government investing in infrastructure projects in Bulgaria.
The Obama Administration has asked US Ambassador McEldowney to return to Washington to become Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. She is expected to take up her new assignment in the early fall, and will remain in Bulgaria until late summer.
