Bulgaria's future Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, confirmed Monday that former MEP Nikolay Mladenov is going to be the Defense Minister in the new government of the GERB party.
Borisov made this announcement in a brief interview for a Darik Radio talk show.
Mladenov was born in 1972. He has BA and MA in international relations from the University for National and World Economy in Sofia, and a MA in war studies from King's College in London.
In 2007-2009, Mladenov was a Member of the European Parliament from the GERB party. He did not run in the June 7 European Elections because Borisov was allegedly "saving him" for a top ministerial position in Sofia even though the outcome of the July 5 Parliamentary Elections, in which GERB won 40% of the votes, was still far from clear.
For a while, media reports said Mladenov was going to be the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. However, that position in the GERB government will be filled by another MEP, Rumiana Jeleva.
