Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles targeted Russian military assets in the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk during a night-time operation between April 5 and 6, according to statements from Ukrainian officials. Among the reported targets was the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich, a vessel equipped to carry Kalibr cruise missiles.
Information about the strike was shared by Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, who said the attack was carried out by the “Ptakhy” unit of the 1st Separate Centre of the Unmanned Systems Forces. The operation was reportedly coordinated with the Security Service of Ukraine, which is now assessing the extent of the damage inflicted.

The Admiral Grigorovich is a Project Burevestnik-class frigate and one of the key missile platforms in Russia’s naval fleet. It is armed with eight Kalibr cruise missiles and supported by a Shtil-1 air defense system capable of launching up to 24 missiles. Despite these defensive capabilities, Ukrainian drones were able to reach and strike the vessel.
In parallel with the attack on the frigate, Ukrainian forces also reported hitting the Sivash jack-up drilling platform. The strike was conducted jointly by the Unmanned Systems Forces and Ukrainian naval deep-strike units, indicating a coordinated effort against both military and infrastructure targets.
The incident follows reports from Russian authorities and local social media channels about a drone assault on Novorossiysk on the evening of April 5. According to the Telegram channel Astra, the Sheskharis oil terminal may also have been among the sites targeted during the operation.
