Bulgaria is ready to offer technical and expert assistance to Serbia in its path towards EU integration, revealed the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin.
On Thursday, he met with his Serbian counterpart Ivan Mrkic, who is on an official visit to Sofia.
“We will prepare a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of European integration. Both our positive and negative experiences will be useful, so we can help Serbia avoid some of the mistakes we made”, stated the Bulgarian Foreign Minister.
Mrkic is optimistic that Serbia will effectively complete its negotiations and become a full fledged EU member within the envisioned time frame. He added that Bulgaria’s experience will be very useful, since the country is a rather new member of the union, which means that the details of the negotiations are still fresh in their minds.
Mrkic pointed out that Serbia and Bulgaria go long ways back, and the history of the two nations is intertwined in many periods.
Vigenin, on his part, said that never before in history have relations between the two neighbors been so developed and the political dialogue so intensive.
As a part of the 135th anniversary of bilateral relations between Serbia and Bulgaria, which is this year, both foreign ministers issued a joint statement pledging to continue this effective friendship and to base it on common European values and principles.
A series of thematic meetings between Serbian and Bulgarian government officials will take place throughout the year.
