Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev is starting on an ambitious official visit to China, January 12-15.

Friday the Bulgarian head of state gave an extensive interview for the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, in which he said he wants to build new bridges between the two countries.

"The goal of my visit is to open as many doors as possible and to strenthen the excellend Bulgarian-Chinese relations," stated Plevneliev.

According to him, a new level of trust will be achieved between the two countries.

A number of bilateral agreements - including in the fields of transport and cultural cooperation - are expected to be signed.

Plevneliev will be accompanied by Bulgarian businessmen, and two business forums will be organized.

"Many Chinese companies invest in Bulgaria, in the industry, in agriculture, in renewable energy. We also welcome the ambitious program of Chinese construction companies to participate in infrastructure projects in Bulgaria," said Plevneliv.

Trade exchange between China and Bulgaria rose with 20% for 2013, and for 2013 the Bulgarian President expects a record growth, writes Xinhua.

"This is a very positive dynamics. For Bulgaria, China is the most improtant and biggest strategic partner in Asia. We want to develop and multiply what we have achieved."

The Bulgarian President also reiterated his idea that China could use the geostrategic position of Bulgaria as a way to position itself better within the EU as a broader market.

Plevneliev further welcomed recent reforms carried out in China, saying that they are bound to create more justice and better statehood in the country.

He also recalled that Bulgaria was the second country globally to recognize the People's Republic in China back in 1949.

"Politicians now have a very solemn task, for something that has been upgraded by generations of politicians, now has to receive its new horizon and new dimensions," stated Plevneliev.

In 2013, both Bulgaria's PM Plamen Oresharski and Parliament Speaker Mihail Mikov also visited China.
