The UK government will consider using the army should the rioting that has grappled the country since last weekend continue, stated PM David Cameron.

Cameron, who has been especially harsh and unforgiving to protesters, who have turned to massive burning and looting in London, Birmingham, Manchester and elsewhere, said that for the time being an army intervention is not in order, though it could relieve the police in coping with the dire situation in the future.

"It is my responsibility to make sure that every contingency is looked at - including whether there are tasks that the army could undertake that would free up more police for the front line," the UK PM said when addressing the issue in front of Parliament.

Cameron confessed that the British police has faced a highly unusual situation, with which they were not completely ready to cope, in view of the massiveness and uniformity of the criminal actions.

The British PM said a number of other measuers are under consideration, such as the broadening of the powers of the police to use force and coercion, as well as a boosting of the sentencing powers of courts.

More than 1,300 are reported to have been arrested since the start of massive rioting in London Saturday evening.
