European Commission Plans Heavy Tariffs on Russian Grain Imports
The European Commission has unveiled plans for significant tariff hikes on grain imports from Russia and Belarus
Bulgaria has registered a 23.8% boost in its exports to other EU member states year on year in the period January – November 2010, according to the National Statistical Institute's preliminary data.
Bulgaria's exports in the period amounted to BGN 17 B. The largest growths were recorded in the sections "Crude materials, inedible (except fuel)" and "Chemical and related products". A fall was observed only in exports of one section – „Beverages and tobacco"
Bulgaria's main trade partners for the period were Germany, Italy, Romania and Greece that formed 61.6% of the country's total exports to the EU Member states. The exports to Italy and Romania increased by 38.2%.
The most significant growths were observed in the exports to Estonia, Slovenia and Luxembourg. The exports to Denmark and Czech Republic reported growths by 62.5% and 52.1% respectively. The most notable falls were registered in the exports to Cyprus, Belgium, Portugal and Malta.
In November 2010, the exports to the EU increased by 27% year on year and reached to BGN 1.7 B.
Bulgaria's imports from the EU in the period January - November 2010 increased by 9.9% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, amounting to BGN 19.9 B at CIF prices. The largest growths on imports from the EU were reported in sections "Crude materials, inedible (except fuel)" and „ Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" and the lowest in section "Machinery and transport equipment".
The most significant growths were reported on the imports from Malta (by 261.6%) and Portugal (by 89.3%) . The largest decreases were observed in the imports from Estonia, Czech Republic and Denmark.
In November 2010, the Bulgarian imports from the EU Member States increased by 36.9% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 2.3 billion levs at CIF prices.
The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with EU in the period January -November 2010 was negative and amounted to BGN 2.9 B.
