US manufacturer of avionics and other aerospace products Honeywell is opening a regional customer center in Bulgaria’s Sofia Airport Center, a project of Tishman International and GE Real Estate.

Tishman International Companies, a leading international commercial real estate development and management company, and GE Real Estate Central & Eastern Europe, have announced that Honeywell EOOD, the Bulgarian arm of the multinational Honeywell Corporation, will celebrate the grand opening of its Regional Customer Center at the award winning Sofia Airport Center (SAC) on April 20, 2010.

“Honeywell’s commitment to expanding its Eastern European presence at SAC is a win-win for Honeywell, the project and Bulgaria’s capital city of Sofia, as it continues to emerge as a vital regional link for the European economy,” said Tishman International Chairman Alan D. Levy.

The Regional Customer Center is the location for the European project organization to execute Assembly, Integration, Logistic and Customer test services for their projects. Located in Building 1 of The Logistics Center at 64 Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Honeywell’s new Regional Customer Center is comprised of both office and warehouse space.

Honeywell began conducting business in Bulgaria in 1983, operating through its joint venture company “Sistematix”, and after that through its Subsidiary Company Honeywell EOOD. Subsequently, Honeywell has become one of the leading suppliers of systems and automation equipment for the Bulgarian Industry.

The 180,000-square-meter Sofia Airport Center is a flexible mixed-use, logistics, office and hospitality project that is the largest development of its type in Bulgaria, developed and managed according to Western European and U.S. standards.

"Sofia Airport Center's tenant-focused flexibility, with its mix of logistic office and warehouse space, is ideal for accommodating the various needs of Honeywell's Bulgarian operation," said Tishman Chairman Alan D. Levy. "Honeywell EOOD's assembly of electronic control cabinets is conveniently located in the same leased premises," he added.

The SAC Office Center building is Bulgaria's first LEED-certified commercial building, and is expected to achieve LEED "silver" status, for its drastically reduced energy consumption and optimal utilization of renewable energy sources. (The U.S. Embassy in Sofia is also LEED-certified.)
