Bulgaria has secured a six-month extension of the Lukoil waiver, following a decision by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The move comes ahead of the previously set deadline of April 29, giving the country additional time under the current arrangement.
The extension is formalized through a license issued by OFAC, which permits specific transactions involving certain Lukoil-linked entities operating within Bulgaria. The government confirmed that the measure ensures continuity in operations under the existing framework.
According to official information, the decision follows recent diplomatic contacts between Sofia and Washington. It comes shortly after a conversation held on April 9 between Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Authorities emphasized that the waiver remains essential for maintaining stability, with the license allowing “transactions involving certain legal entities of Lukoil in Bulgaria” to continue under regulated conditions.
