Fuel prices in Germany have recently reached new highs, with diesel briefly exceeding 2.40 euros per litre during the Easter holiday period before easing slightly afterward. The development was discussed on Nova TV by Hristo Dingozov, a Bulgarian resident in Cologne, who noted that prices have since fallen to around 2.25 euros per liter based on his most recent information.
The increase in fuel costs is being felt directly by households across the country, as higher petrol and diesel prices translate into more expensive transport overall. According to Dingozov, this affects everyday mobility, especially for people who commute regularly or depend on private vehicles for work and daily activities in Germany.
Public transport in Cologne is also relatively costly, he explained. A single ticket currently costs about 3.80 euros, making monthly subscriptions a more practical option for regular users. Buses, trams and the metro form the backbone of urban transport in the city, with many residents relying on combined travel passes.
Dingozov also pointed out that there is currently limited public discussion in Germany about major policy interventions such as fuel tax reductions, excise duty cuts or price caps. Instead, he suggested that authorities are largely taking a wait-and-see approach as the situation develops, without immediate plans for direct market intervention.
