The Bulgarian community in the United Kingdom is preparing for participation in the upcoming general election, with no major disruptions expected on voting day despite concerns linked to the reduced number of polling stations.
A total of 28 polling stations will be available across the UK, with 15 located in London and seven operating inside the Bulgarian embassy. The overall number of voting sites has been significantly cut compared to previous elections.
According to civic volunteer Zornitsa Rangelova, who has taken part in election organization efforts in the past, the reduced availability of polling locations and criticism over their distribution are unlikely to prevent motivated voters from casting their ballots. She said those determined to vote will find ways to reach polling stations, including travelling by car or organizing shared transport such as rented buses, particularly for those living outside London.
Longer waiting times are anticipated due to the limited infrastructure, although she suggested queues would not reach the levels seen in the 2021 elections. She also noted that even if voting hours are extended, participants should still be able to exercise their right to vote without major difficulties.
The embassy in London, which hosts seven polling stations, is expected to handle a large share of voter turnout, and Rangelova expressed confidence that it is adequately prepared for the volume.
She added that elections should be approached in a positive spirit, describing voting day as an opportunity to bring people together. Commenting on debates about the right of Bulgarians abroad to vote, she said these citizens remain strongly connected to Bulgaria, with many hoping to return in the future and motivated by the desire to influence positive change through their vote.
