Bulgaria: Bulgarian Cabinet Allocates BGN 81 M for Pensions, Health, Agriculture in One Hour BGNES

At its meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet managed to allocate, within about an hour, nearly BGN 81 M.

According to PM Boyko Borisov, the increase in funds is due to larger contributions by collection agencies and the Interior Ministry, and the money comes from penalising contraband and various financial crimes.

The largest amount of BGN 50 M was allocated for securing a Christmas supplement of BGN 40 for the poorest pensioners. The money will be distributed among 1.2 million people.

The second largest transfer was set aside for the budget of State Fund Agriculture – BGN 17,173,500 and the money will be used to finance VAT expenditures on completed municipal projects under the Rural Areas Development Programme  and under the European Maritime and Fisheries Operational Programme for 2007-2013.

The Health Ministry received BGN 7.2 M for the renovation and equipment of hospitals, while the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAN) was granted BGN 3M via the Education Ministry for the construction of the biggest particle accelerator on the Balkan peninsula
