Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova failed to qualify for her third ever Grand Slam quarterfinal, as she suffered a 0-6, 4-6 defeat at the hands of former world No.1 Ana Ivanovic at US Open on Monday.

The 12th-seeded Ivanovic won the first set effortlessly, while the second set witnessed a total of 7 service breaks.

The 24-year-old Bulgarian held serve just once in the match.

Even though Pironkova has advanced to the second round in ten consecutive Grand Slam events, she was yet to reach the fourth round outside Wimbledon.

Ivanovic, who reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time since winning the 2008 French Open, is to face fourth-seeded Serena Williams, who won the US Open in 1999, 2002 and 2008.
