The opposition left-wing Coalition for Bulgaria is launching consultations for a non-confidence motion against the GERB government, according to the formation's press office.
The left-wing party explains that the step was triggered by Tuesday's statement of Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, which displayed "total inadequacy to the signals and justified criticisms leveled by the European Commission against Bulgaria in the preliminary version of the upcoming CVM report."
Speaking in Parliament Tuesday, Tsvetanov presented a special report, bragging about the "unprecedented" accomplishments of the Interior Ministry in the years 2009-2012.
Tsvetanov argued that the Interior Ministry had managed to attain 100% of the goals set out in the election program of GERB, including structural reforms at the institution, streamlined investigative procedures and efficient operations against organized crime.
"The parliamentary group of Coalition for Bulgaria believes that it will be harmful for the country if Tsvetan Tsvetanov keeps the post of Interior Minister. This is why he needs to file his resignation immediately," the press release says.
The left-wing formation specifies that the consultations will be launched after the publication of the final version of the EC report on Bulgaria's progress in the spheres of justice and home affairs.
Coalition for Bulgaria vows to discuss the matter with all parliamentary groups except that of center-right ruling party GERB.
The formation says that the no-confidence motion will be based on the Cabinet's failures in the spheres of justice and home affairs.
The official version of the EC report on Bulgaria under the co-operation and verification mechanism is due Wednesday and is largely expected to contain scathing criticism.
