Bulgaria's government has proposed legislative amendments that abolish plea bargains in cases of traffic accidents that have cost human lives, the country's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
No plea bargains will be possible for drivers who have killed pedestrians at traffic lights or crosswalks, Tsvetanov clarified on Monday in an interview for the Bulgarian National Television.
Road killers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as unlicensed drivers who kill, will also be banned from plea bargains.
Drivers who have hit pedestrians will also be banned from leaving the country, the amendments foresee.
Tsvetanov expressed his hope that all political parties in the Parliament will support the amendments and stated that they would be proposed for parliamentary discussions within a month's time.
The amendments were demanded by families of traffic accident victims.
