The ultra-nationalist World Macedonian Congress has demanded that Macedonia's former Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski be sued for treason since he has a Bulgarian citizenship.

In a press release sent to Macedonian media, the World Macedonian Congress has pointed out that clear evidence exists that Georgievski has been granted a Bulgarian citizenship, citing a 2006 interview with then Bulgarian Vice President Angel Marin.

Georgievski is a "renegade from the nation" due to his Bulgarian citizenship, the organization concludes, stating that there were no Macedonians left in the whole world who believe him.

The former PM had secret plans to destabilize the country and bring about a change in power, the World Macedonian Congress also believes.

Since the early Middle Ages, all the way to the first half of the 20th century, Macedonia and its Slavic population were considered part of the Bulgarian nation not just by Bulgaria but also by its neighbors and the international community.

In recent years dozens of thousands of citizens of the Republic of Macedonia have received Bulgarian citizenship based on their Bulgarian origin.

The World Macedonian Congress considers itself a non-formal World Parliament of the Macedonians from all parts of Macedonia and the whole world.
