Bulgaria's top female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova was defeated in the first match of the USD 220,000 tournament in Hobart, Australia.

The 23-year-old Bulgarian, who was seeded No.3, lost by 6:2, 3:6, 2:6 to Peng Shuai from China, who ranks 72nd in the world.

For her participation in the tournament, Pironkova, who currently ranks 35th, received 1 point and USD 1,725.

The next challenge for her will be Australia Open, which begins January 17. Thanks to her good presentation from last year, she will be among the seeded and will avoid top 35 tennis players in the first two rounds of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.
