A container carrier has crashed into two vessels of the Bulgarian naval base at Varna.

The accident happened Wednesday night as the MSC Equator cargo ship sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was maneuvering its way out of the Varna-East Port, reported the BGNES agency.

In order to avoid clashing with another cargo vessel, it sailed towards the Varna base of the Bulgarian Navy.

As a result, it got tangled into the anchor chains of the training ship of the Bulgarian Navy named “Nikola Vaptsarov” and the bunker tanker “Balchik”, also owned by the Navy.

This led the two naval vessels to clash. The MSC Equator, which also hit them, took hours to get untangled. The container carrier has a length of 167 m, and a beam of 25 m.

The scope of the damage incurred to the vessels has not been announced.

The Black Sea Port of Varna is the place of the headquarters of the Bulgarian Navy.
