The mass shutdown of European airports caused by Icelandic volcanic ash cloud has left millions of passengers stranded, photo by EPA/BGNES
On Monday the volcanic ash cloud that enveloped Europe caused a reschedule of flights throughout the Continent.
Austria – airports have been open since 4 am GMT (7 am Bulgarian time)
Bosna – airports are open.
Great Britain – British Airways has canceled all of its flights on Monday. The sky over the British Isle will remain closed at least an hour after midnight.
Bulgaria – Sofia and Plovdiv airports have been open since 11 am GMT (2 pm Bulgarian time). The Bulgarian airports are closed. Transit flights at a height of 8 000 meters are allowed.
The Check Republic – the air space remains closed at least until 10 am GMT (1 pm Bulgarian time).
Denmark – flight at a height of over 10 800 meters are allowed, all flights below that height are canceled.
Estonia – flights are canceled until 12 pm GMT (3 pm Bulgarian time).
Finland – flights are allowed from two of the countries airports for six hours on Monday due to a clearing of the ash cloud. Flights to the southeast of the Finnish city of Turku and the municipal city of Tampere from 9 am to 3 pm GMT (12 pm to 6 pm Bulgarian time) are allowed.
France – the airports in Bordeaux, Marseilles, Nice and Toulouse will remain open until 1 pm GMT (4 pm Bulgarian time). The airports located north of the Nice-Bordeaux route will remain closed until Tuesday morning. Air France have announced that the test flights from Paris to Toulouse have gone smoothly and more such flights have been planned.
Germany – flights are canceled till 12 pm GMT on Monday (3 pm Bulgarian time)
Hungary – transit flights at a height of over 8 000 meters are allowed until 1 pm GMT (4 pm Bulgarian time)
Ireland – flights are canceled at least until 12 pm GMT. Rayanair, the biggest low cost European airline, has canceled all flights to and from northern Europe until Wednesday. Aer Lingus has canceled all its flights on Monday.
Italy – on Monday the northern airspace was open for flying at 5 am GMT (8 am Bulgarian time) but was closed again shortly after.
Latvia – transit flights at a height of over 6 000 meters have been allowed, yet there will be no flights to and from the capital Riga on Monday.
Lithuania – all flights are allowed
Montenegro – flights are allowed
The Netherlands – flights are put off until 12 pm GMT (3 pm Bulgarian time) on Monday
Norway – air traffic to the airport in the Oslo capital has been partially renewed. Airports in the remaining parts of the country remain shut down.
Poland – on Monday airports will be shut down. Transit flights within the Polish air space are allowed, yet take-offs and landings on Polish territory are prohibited.
Romania – flights are canceled till at least 9 am GMT (12 pm Bulgarian time)
Slovakia – the air space in the eastern part of the country is open to flying at a height of over 7 500 meters, but the airport in Bratislava remains shut down.
Spain – 17 airports have been opened
Sweden – flights to the north of the Göteborg – Stockholm route have been allowed. Scandinavian Airlines are expected to renew all their flights later on Monday.
Switzerland – the country’s leading airline Swiss Air has announced that on Monday European flights to and from Switzerland have been canceled until 6 pm GMT (9 pm Bulgarian time). Transit flights within the country’s airspace have also been canceled.
Turkey – all airports are open. Planes passing over the Black sea cities of Samsun, Sinop and Zonguldak must fly at a height of no more than 6 000 meters.
Ukraine – the Kiev airport is open.
