Bulgaria's President, Georgi Parvanov, declared he would not impose a veto on the State Budget and Tax Acts, particularly in times of crisis.
Parvanov spoke upon conclusion of his special meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Tsetska Tsacheva, to discuss the Acts amendments in order to speed up the passing of the 2010 State budget. Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, made the surprise decision to take part in the discussion despite the fact the meeting has not been on his Tuesday agenda.
Earlier Parvanov said that he might impose a veto on texts in the Tax Act over the Parliament's vote to eliminate tax relief for young families who wish to purchase their first home.
Parvanov voiced his satisfaction from the meeting over the opportunity to express his opinion and the received assurances that the relief would not be annulled.
The President, however, continues to have some objections and stated he would ask the Constitutional Court to rule on them. One of them is the amendment adopted by the Parliament to tax legal representation fees while the second one involves amendments in the Disabled Individuals Integration Act.
The Members of the Parliament debate introducing an income criteria of BGN less than 350 a month in order to pay integration supplements to disabled people, a move Parvanov deems unfair.
