Bulgaria’s former Tsar and former Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, declared Saturday he does not want to accept the post of honorary leader of the party he created.

Saxe-Coburg based the refusal to remain in the National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NMSP) party with the motive he had many tasks upon him that he now must do and find the time for it.

The former Tsar stressed the liberal, centrist ideas do not start and end with him, and he would support NMSP in any way, but without being a leader.

“This is the nicest thing about ideas – they do not stop with one person,” Saxe-Coburg is quoted as saying.

The former PM further firmly rejected any speculations he might run for Bulgaria’s next president, addressing the idea voiced during the Saturday NMSP congress that the party must have a presidential nomination.

“The new NMSP leadership will decide if they will have a presidential nomination, but I would not, by any means, take part,” Simeon said.

When asked if he would accept responsibility about the party’s crushing defeat in the July general elections, Simeon replied that this was the exact reason behind his resignation as NMSP leader, pointing out he continues to state the decision for NMSP to stay with the three-party coalition cabinet until the end of the term was his own.

Saxe-Coburg, however, declined to address prosecutor’s charges against former NMSP ministers, the current GERB cabinet or the portfolio assignment of the new Bulgarian EU Commissioner.

NMSP) is holding a special congress Saturday where delegates will elect new leader from the four announced contenders.

The party failed to win any parliamentary seats during the July general elections despite being in power for two terms. Simeon Saxe-Coburg resigned as leader in the election’s aftermath.
