Bulgaria's unemployment rate increased by 0,2% in October 2009 reaching 8,23%, according to data of the Employment Agency released Thursday.

In October 2009, Bulgaria’s unemployment has grown by 2,38% compared to the same month of 2008.

The number of people registered as unemployed in the Agency bureaus around the country grew by 7 400 reaching 304 915. 19% of the newly unemployed come from the processing industry, 16% from the trade sector, 10,8% from state institutions, and 8,2% - from the construction sector.

The lowest unemployment levels were recorded in the Districts of Sofia – 2,58%, Burgas – 5,07%, and Varna – 6,17%. The highest percentage of unemployed is in the Districts of Smolyan – 14,94%, Montana – 13,65%, and Targovishte – 13,59%.

A total of 12 039 job vacancies were available in October, including 9 585 in the private sector. At the end of the month, 5 891 of those remained vacant.
