Bulgaria's National Football Team captain, Dimitar Berbatov, said Sunday that the accruing of failures had decreased the desire of the Bulgarian team to play.
“It is not shameful since apparently at the moment we are weaker than Cyprus,” Berbatov said at the Sofia Airport as the Bulgarian National Team arrived home after its crushing and rather unexpected 4:1 loss to Cyprus in its next to the last World Cup qualified.
“We can’t be angry with the young players. I hope their clubs teach them how to position themselves better, and to play more shrewdly. There were no other guys for this match, this is what we had,” the star striker of Manchester United said.
“At one point you lose the desire to play. It is no good hearing this from the captain but after so many failures, it happens like that. It is normal that people don’t support us now. If I were a fan, I wouldn’t support us, too,” Berbatov commented.
The striker further said he was happy with the work of the National Team Coach Stanimir Stoilov.
After Bulgaria’s defeat in Cyprus on Saturday, the team lost whatever tiny chance it had to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa.
