The speed cameras will aim to stop drivers from exceeding the speed limit on the turnings to Kiten and Primorsko on the Black Sea road that straddles the coast. Currently the municipality government says it hasn't got enough funds for the cameras but suggested that the cameras will be mounted soon.
If mounted they will be some of the first such cameras to be mounted in Bulgaria and the local police department said that they will be effective, "as no one likes to have a fine coming through the post."
In January 2008, world skating champion, Maxim Staviiski received a suspended sentence of 2,5 years for drink driving and causing the car crash on the Primorsko section of road in August 2007, which left 24-year-old Petar Petrov dead, and 18-year-old Manuela Gorsova in a coma.
Last month a 21-year old Belgian tourist was killed on the same road by a speeding Porsche.
