A bus has flipped over near the Bakadzhik peak in southern Bulgaria around 9:00 am Thursday morning.

The official information released by the Bulgarian Interior Ministry lists the fatalities at 13, while 13 are said to be seriously injured, 3 in critical condition.

The local Yambol Police Chief reported for Darik radio that the dead toll has reached anywhere between 14 and 15.

Rescue teams and ambulances have arrived at the location and the injured have been taken to the Emergency Room in the nearby city of Yambol.

Initial information also reveals the bus has been empty, on his way back to Yambol, after depositing passengers at a mountain cabin. The bus hit a tree and flipped over.

The staggering dead toll can be explained by the fact that a local fair was taking place in the area to mark Ascension Day, or the so called Spasovden. A crowd had already gathered near the peak Thursday morning, before the accident occurred.

The Members of the Bulgarian Parliament honored the dead by a minute of silence.
