At Least 37 Killed in Train Crash in Egypt

At least 37 passengers died as a train and several vehicles collided Wednesday at a level crossing in northern Egypt, BBC reported.

As many as 50 people were injured in the crash near Marsa Matruh, 430km north-west of the capital city of Cairo.

The accident occurred after a truck failed to stop at the crossing and pushed several waiting vehicles into the path of the train, local police authorities announced.

Road accidents are frequent in Egypt and kill about 6,000 people every year.

Correspondents say many of the crashes are due to reckless driving, poor road and vehicle maintenance and lack of enforcement of traffic regulations.
