Senator Hillary Clinton has decided to officially end her historic presidential campaign and is expected to back candidate Barack Obama.

Clinton's decision came after Democrats urged her Wednesday to leave the race and allow the party to coalesce around Mr. Obama, the New York Times reported.

Mrs. Clinton's aides said she would "express her support for Senator Obama and party unity" at an event in Washington on Saturday.

"I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise," Clinton said in a letter to her supporters on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the Illinois Senator Barack Obama became the first African-American to be a presidential nominee of one of America's two major political parties.

As the last two Democratic primaries in the states of Montana and South Dakota ended, experts projected that Obama would for sure have at least 2,119 (with 2118 needed) delegates to the National Democratic Convention, which guaranteed him the nomination of the Democratic Party for the 2008 Presidential Elections.
