Dear Sir:

I did not read the Newsweek Article so I am not 100% sure of the comments made by the writer of the article that has offended so many people of Bulgaria. However, I do have an opinion that I would like to share on this topic.

I have a pen pal living in Plovdiv. She is a full time student at a university, where she is studying law, and she is working in addition to
this. This woman has the determination and the character to pull herself up by her "boot straps" and make a good career for herself, disregarding, the less than perfect environment of Bulgaria. My pen pal is intelligent, sensitive, and so good looking that I refer to her as a "fox."

If I had the money to visit Bulgaria and meet such a wonderful woman, in such a good tourist destination as Bulgaria, then I would do so. However, I think there is more to this story.

First, the writer of the article has freedom of speech, just as you do. Also, the writer should be allowed to form an opinion that is wrong, if that is their desire. All that you can do is present information to show that there is more to Bulgaria that what was reported by Newsweek.

I am a life long citizen of America, and subject to constant criticism by European pen pals, as well as headline news about European politicians that do not like this or that about America. The point being that a little criticism from Newsweek is a small price to pay for being who you are. In conclusion, setting the record straight about Bulgaria may be the short term goal, but in the long run no foreigner will have the passion for your country to match the passion that you express to yourselves and to the world. Let
the world judge Bulgaria, not by the words of an outsider, but by the deeds of its citizens.
