Pressing ahead with the reforms is Bulgaria's chance of getting an invitation to NATO in Prague, the President of the US Committee on NATO Bruce Jackson told journalists March 1. Key problems of Bulgaria's NATO integration and its efforts during the nine months remaining until the Alliance's Prague Summit were discussed at his meeting with President Parvanov. "We are well aware of US significant role in taking decisions on NATO enlargement,” Parvanov said at the start of the meeting. "We realize that Bulgaria's progress towards the Alliance requires meeting serious political, military and other criteria," the Head of State underlined. In an answer to Jackson ‘s critical remarks about ongoing processes in Bulgaria, President Parvanov assured Jackson of Bulgaria’s determination to continue with the military reform and intensify corruption combat. President Parvanov briefed the guest on the revisions of the laws affecting Bulgaria's integration into NATO during the last few weeks and on the budgeting of extra funds for the modernization of the armed forces. Bruce Jackson arrived in Bulgaria February 27.
