Former prime minister of Bulgaria Lyuben Berov, 81, passed away on Thursday after heavy illness.
Berov headed the government in 1992-1994 on the mandate of predominantly ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
Born on 6 October 1925 in Sofia, Lyuben Berov graduated at economics at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
After nearly ten years of university lectures, Berov was awarded assistant professor degree in 1962 and in 1971 he became professor in economics.
His professional career went through top university management positions, the Institutes of Balkan Studies and of Economy at the Academy of Sciences.
Berov entered politics in 1990-1992 as a councilor to President Zhelyu Zhelev.
Lyuben Berov is a prolific author of more than 200 books, textbooks and scientific monographs.
He is married and has two children, daughter and son.
