No traces of genetically modified organisms have been found in foods produced in Bulgaria, Darik News reported.
Genetically modified microorganisms have been discovered in imported food products offered throughout Bulgaria's stores.
The moderated substances however were in very small amounts, which means that they have not been genetically modified in production, Svetlana Cherkezova, a representative of the Health Ministry said during a presentation of a PHARE project on foods with genetic modifications.
As of January 1, 2007 genetically modified foods and products will be legally offered for sale only if they have the necessary licences from the European Commission, she added.
