Bulgaria celebrates 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth with a special exhibition at the Academy Gallery, which opend on Wednesday.
The exhibition, which is part of the world celebrations on the occasion, includes helio-engravings and digital prints of artist's works.
In 2006 it will have been 400 years ago that Rembrandt, Holland's greatest 17th-century painter, was born. Like no other artist, Rembrandt managed to capture light and shadows in paint. In addition, his drawings and etchings are unequalled.
Rembrandt, son of a Leiden miller, was born on July 15, 1606. His parents expected him to enjoy a university education, however, Rembrandt was to choose painting as a career.
He was apprenticed to Leiden master Jacob van Swanenburgh and had his first studio in this city. In Leiden he made his first historical paintings and self-portraits.
