Hungarian Livia Jaroka, the first MEP of Romany origin, grabbed the annual Justice and Fundamental Right Award of the Parliamentary Magazine.
The award went to Ms Jaroka because of her contribution while representing and defending the rights of Roma minorities in Europe.
The Parliament Magazine's MEP Awards highlight the work of the MEPs in seven categories this year - environment, health, justice and fundamental rights, development, regional, research and technology, and employment.
Livia Jaroka became famous in Bulgaria after Bulgarian EP observer Dimitar Stoyanov caused quite a controversy just days after the EC giving Bulgaria green light to join EU in time with an e-mail containing racist remarks about her.
