H. Arsala, Deputy Chairman of the Interim Government and Finance Minister of Afghanistan asked Angel Orbetsov, special envoy of the Bulgarian Foreign Minister to Afghanistan to convey the gratitude of the new government in Kabul to Bulgaria for its support in the peace process. The two officials discussed Bulgaria's participation in the reconstruction of Afghanistan as well as the restoration of Bulgaria's diplomatic presence in Afghanistan. The Afghan government is positive towards Bulgaria’s governmental proposal for restructuring of the Afghan debt as well as for the initiative a conference of the official creditors to take place in Sofia. Concrete initiatives for restoring and promoting bilateral contacts were discussed at the Ministry of Transport. These are mainly in the transportation of goods by Bulgarian road hauliers via the direct route through Iran or Uzbekistan, participation of Bulgarian firms - independently or jointly with Iran in the reconstruction of roads, delivery of road vehicles and spare parts for the 300 Bulgarian “Chavdar” buses imported in the 1980s; personnel training and participation in the realization of transport projects such as building a trolley bus network in Kabul.
