Police officers from the western city of Kyustendil have arrested a man who tried to swindle another man into paying EUR 3,000 for a EUR 35 worth of equipment.
The fraudster called a woman in Kyustendil, saying he was a friend of her husband back from their military service days. The gullible lady provided her husband's cell number and the 33-year-old crook then presented a business plan before him.
The husband was offered partnership in a deal with drilling proportioners for the oil industry. These proportioning devices normally cost about EUR 6,000, but the swindler claimed he knew a shop in Sofia where they only cost half of that. Without realizing that he was being played, the man agreed to split the EUR 3,000 they'd make with his "military service buddy".
It turned out that the pricey devices that the man had paid were actually metal pieces that cost about EUR 35. Police were alerted and they managed to catch the crook. They found out that he had already entered their database for theft and was out on probation.
