Chief Prosecutor of Bulgaria Boris Velchev has expressed disagreement with the conclusion of the EC report, saying Sofia cripples with financial control on money laundering.

Talking to media minutes after the EP plenary, where EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn presented the key findings in the 2006 report, Boris Velchev stressed on the "results" yielded by the country.

Brussels has written down in the report that the fight of such a criminal activity is key for the security and financial interest of all Bulgarian and EU citizens.

It has also called to Sofia to strengthen the financial control over structural and cohesion funds, in particular for important infrastructural projects, so as to allow Bulgaria to catch up with other Member states and to become fully integrated in the EU.
