TURKEY CONFIRMED SUPPORT FOR BULGARIA'S EU AND NATO ENTRY

Bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Turkey in the economy field, transport, communications, industry, energy sector and infrastructure were on the agenda of the 15th session of the mixed Bulgarian-Turkish Intergovernmental Committee for Economic and Technical Cooperation. The two-day session opened on January 22 in Boyana Residence in Sofia and was co-chaired by Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Kostadin Paskalev and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz. According to Deputy Prime Minister Yilmaz the two countries have tremendous potential for boosting economic cooperation and carrying out joint projects in third countries. The two Deputy Prime Ministers were unanimous that all issues on the relations between the two countries can be settled. Minister Yilmaz confirmed Turkey’s support for Bulgaria’s NATO and EU entry. Trade between Bulgarian and Turkey in 2000 stood at USD 706 M, Turkish direct investment in 2001 amounted to USD 3,3 M.
