Bulgaria has tightened control after the first bird flu case in the country was reported on Friday.

Experts are on alert and most of the rivers and lakes in the country are being watched. The specialists are observing the birds and their migration. They are also questioning citizens and giving them instructions on how to act in the current situation.

The specialists have been supplied with special outfits and Bulgaria's Emergency Management Ministry is expected to supply all veterinary departments and the units of the Civil Defence with the antiviral drug Tamiflu on Sunday.

There is no bird flu case of the deadly H5N1 registered on Bulgaria's territory, Zheko Baychev from the National Veterinary Service said in an interview for private bTV channel.

On Friday it appeared that the bird-killing H5 virus was found in a dead swan pulled out from the Danube on January 31. Still, it is not clear where the bird came from.

A sample of the dead swan will be sent to London on Monday.

Over the weekend there were many signals for dead birds found across the countries. Samples of the birds are being tested in Sofia.
