There is no threat for the people in the area where the dead swan infected with bird flu has been found, Health Minister Professor Radoslav Gaydarski said.

Gaydarski, who is in Danube city Vidin, where the dead bird was found, explained that all farmers should obey the instructions for such situations issued by the authorities. Farmers need to understand that they should keep their fowl off the roads and observe the requirements of the current situation, Gaydarski underlined.

Earlier in the day, the health minister ordered all governors of the Bulgarian administrative regions along the Danube River and the Black Sea to follow strictly the recommendations issued by veterinary and health services.

There is no place for panic, Zheko Baychev from the National Veterinary Service said. The sample of the dead swan found will be sent to London on Monday.

Meanwhile, it appeared that the Emergency Management Ministry will supply all veterinary departments and the units of the Civil Defence with the Tamiflu medicine.

During the entire day state authorities received signals for dead birds. Fifteen dead swans have been found in the area of the Varna and Durankulak lakes near the Black Sea city Varna. Another two dead swans have been found south of the Black Sea port Burgas and a dead pelican has been detected near the Danube village of Marten.

Another dead bird - a falcon - has been found near Russe. Another dead swan has been found in the Tudzha river near Yambol. All birds will be sent to Sofia for tests.

Bulgaria remains on watch after the first registered bird flu case in the country. On Friday it appeared that the bird-killing H5 virus was found in a dead swan pulled out from the Danube on January 31.
