Bulgaria will receive USD 8,817,612 by the UN Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the second phase of the program "HIV/AIDS prevention and control."

Bulgaria is the first country in the region that received the approval of the Global Fund to continue with the second phase of the program. The program will begin in January 2006 to end in 2008 and during these years the funds will be distributed, Disasters Management Minister Emel Etem, who also chairs the National AIDS Cabinet with the Ministerial Council, commented.

At present there are 582 HIV positive Bulgarians registered in the country. 69% of them are male and 31% are female. The people aged 20 to 29 are most badly affected by the deadly virus.

Three new mobile cabinets that will be used for AIDS prevention and medical checks in Russe, Burgas and Varna were presented on Wednesday to non-governmental organizations.
