SOFIA MAYOR’S PARTY TO SEEK SUPPORT IN EUROPE

The Free Democrats Union, Sofia mayor Stefan Sofianski’ party, will hold its constituent assembly on December 9. A total of 800 delegates will attend the assembly. The Union will seek the support of kindred parties in Europe, its leader announced on December 7. Stefan Sofianski has already sent letters to 100 members of the European People’s Party (EPP), all of them his close acquaintances, informing them about of the principles of the new formation. Next week Sofianski is to have meetings with leaders of the German parties, members of the EPP. In Bulgaria the National Movement Simeon II and the newly formed Bulgarian Democratic Union - Radicals of the expelled UDF leader Bakardzhiev also proclaimed themselves as popular parties, but so far only the Union of Democratic Forces is a EPP member. According to Stefan Sofianski the Free Democrats is to be a powerful and tolerant centrist formation with a radical economic program.
