Finance Minister Milen Velchev and Crown Agents Executive Director David Philips signed on November 29 a three-year contract for the reform in the Bulgarian customs administration. An international team of 37 experts from Crown Agents, who have experience in customs reforms, will help in the reforms of the customs administration during the three years envisaged in the agreement. The experts will work in close cooperation with the officials of the Customs Agency. The aim of the reform is to achieve better results in the performance of the customs administration in the long term and to reach the standards necessary for EU accession. The Bulgarian government will pay GBP 8.132 M to Crown Agents for the reform implementation. The projected increase of revenue will be a lot higher than the initial investment in the three-year program, experts from the Finance Ministry claim.
