Incumbent Bulgarian President Stoyanov said that he will appoint a new Director of the National Security Service only in case that the Council of Ministers proposes to him a suitable candidature. He reiterated that he will consult President-elect Parvanov on the issue. General Atanas Atanassov, Director of National Security Service personally handed in his resignation to the President on November 27. Informed sources claimed that Stoyanov intends to appoint Atanassov’s deputy Ivan Drazhkov to the position. Upon his return from the Council of the Socialist International that took place in the Dominican Republic president-elect Georgi Parvanov said that he will not allow further appointments without being consulted. On November 29, he said that he will arrange a meeting with Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg and incumbent President Stoyanov to talk on the issue.
