The Iraqi Red Crescent Society sounded an alarm over what they described as a humanitarian crisis in Fallujah, which saw days of fierce street battles between US-led forces and Iraqi fighters.

Red Crescent workers say no drinking water or electricity is available, food is running out and medical centres have ceased to function. They called on US forces and the Iraqi government to let it deliver food, medicine and water.

The head of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, Nada Doumani, says the Iraqi Government has turned down her request to deliver supplies to civilians inside Fallujah.

US military officials said Friday their forces now control about 80 percent of Fallujah.
