An Environment Protection Bill has been drafted in full compliance with European legislation, Dolores Arsenova, Bulgaria’s Environment and Waters Minister announced. In her report on the Cabinet's first 100 days, Arsenova underscored the fact that Bulgaria has been cited as a model among European Union candidate states in connection with the free access to environment information. As the Ministry’s most significant achievements, Dolores Arsenova pointed the introduction of environment protection classes in the school curriculum, the development of ecotourism, alternative energy sources and environmental police. Among the projects approved for funding she pointed out the projects for transborder cooperation with Romania under the PHARE Program, two projects for building wastewater purification plants in Pazardjik and Blagoevgrad within the framework of the ISPA EU pre-accession fund. Seven new protected areas have been declared in the period and the management plans of eleven more have been approved.
