Ancient Landmark Sets Officials at Odds

The recently discovered 11th century landmark embroiled Bulgaria's history museum chief with the mayor of Blagoevgrad. The latter refused to deliver the sensational find to the museum.

The landmark had the words "Samuil autocrat of Bulgaria" engraved on it. According to historians, that proved the kingdom of Tsar Samuil (997 - 1014) had Bulgarian nature.

The victorious warrior who then became Bulgarian king was born in today's Macedonia. That gave reason for contentions that the Samuil state was Macedonian.
