Interior Chief Secretary General Boyko Borisov called for urgent changes to the Procedure Code under which expert studies of counterfeit money will be carried out at a specialized center at the Bulgarian National Bank.
Interior Chief Secretary General Boyko Borrisov held a meeting on Tuesday with the governor of the Central Bank Ivan Iskrov and anti-forgery expert from the Bavarian Criminal Service Eduard Liedgens.
Eduard Liedgens donated ten computers for the newly-set unit for combat with counterfeit money and credit cards with the Interior ministry.
Eduard Liedgens arrived on a visit to Bulgaria on January 19 in connection with the preparations of conference to discuss the combat against counterfeiting the single European currency, the euro.
In November last year Bulgaria's central bank and Interior Ministry joined efforts to counteract money forgery taking the advice of German police. With an agreement signed Friday, the bank and the ministry started the Joint Center for Counteraction of Counterfeit Money. Thus a special analysis unit will scrutinize suspicious banknotes and coins seized by police and promptly providing information.
The concept of the center was discussed in October during the visit of a Bavarian police delegation led by Eduard Liedgens.
