Ivan Kostov, former Bulgarian Prime Minister and UDF leader, said that the current leader of Bulgaria's main opposition Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) Nadezhda Mihaylova should not run for the post if an extraordinary national party conference is summoned.
UDF national council is currently holding an extraordinary meeting in Sofia that is to decide on an extraordinary national party conference, with a proposed date of February 21 that would elect a new leader.
In Kostov's words Mihaylova should not run for the post, as she is unable to lead the rightist party out of the crisis. The party needs a person that will unit it and will work out a suitable management program.
The embattled leader of Bulgaria's main opposition Nadezhda Mihaylova reconciled January 15 to internal party pressure about convoking the extraordinary UDF summit of the National Council.
Nadezhda Mihaylova agreed to call the conference after her critics led by former Prime Minister Ivan Kostov threatened to sue her for allegedly forging documents with which the UDF has obtained legal registration. Mihaylova dismissed the allegations and announced her decision to run for a next term as UDF leader.
Members of the party who have formed strong internal opposition since their leader's defeat in Sofia elections urge her to quit UDF's helm. Nadezhda Mihaylova then entered the mayoral race in capital Sofia, but didn't make in to the run-off.
